On Thursday night, I had been eating at a restaurant in Northeast Portland Oregon that was having an election party. While enjoying my cheeseburger, I heard the place erupt in a joyous applause. The results from the election had just been broadcast over the large screen TV and everyone stopped their chit chatting and yelled, high fived, hugged and applauded. Shortly after that, I walked a few blocks away over to 15th and Killingsworth, which is the location of the local Obama Volunteer Station, to join in celebration festivities. That place was crazy, everyone was there... men, women, children, old, young, black, white, hispanic, straight, gay, affluent, poor, etc... and we were all yelling, honking car horns, high-fiving, hugging crying and dancing. At one point, someone brought out some reggae music and everyone just started dancing the electric slide right there on the sidewalk! There were fireworks, there were cops, there were smiles and there was the realization that from night on, the world had changed.
